Alcohol after Drug Rehab … It’s about poor Decisions(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

One of the most common questions we get asked by clients, family and friends is about alcohol consuption.  Specifically if someone has a problem with cocaine or meth, but they have never abused alcohol, can they drink after drug rehab?  Well this really an interesting question on a lot of fronts.  One involves why someone ended up in drug rehab abusing drugs in the first place.  Most times it is some sort of self-medication process involving an inability to cope with life.

One could make some type of arguement, that if you have learned how to cope with life and acquired new skills to deal with everything, one or two drinks wouldn't make a big difference … right?  I would say no.  The reason is very simple. Alcohol does not under any situation make for better decision making.  Alcohol lowers inhibitions.  Alcohol use before cocaine relapse is very common.  What is the point of taking that risk?  By doing a risk benefit analysis by any standard, drinking after drug rehab would not come out as a quality risk.  Improve your life by improving the quaility of your decisions.  By any yardstick, alcohol consumption after drug rehab is a poor risk.

Self Help Drug and Alcohol Rehab Courses(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Well the year is drawing to a close.  We have a goal this year to get out a relapse prevention plan and some matching on line drug addiction and rehab courses on the website.  We almost made it.  All that is left is one approval on our new website, and we are there.  So it will be up sometime in January next year.  There really is not a need to hit rock bottom before you change.  That is why we came up with this on line drug rehab program.  If things are starting to go downhill in your life or the life of a loved why, why not intercept it sooner?  Why not deal with it while you have a career to be saved and a relationship that is still salvagable?

Our on line drug rehab courses will have three components.  The first is a self guided relapse prevention manual to get you through the reasons to stop drug and alcohol abuse and how to stop.  Then it will deal with all the details of sobriety such as tiggers and cues management.  The second workbook is for family.  It is on how to support someone doing drug and alcohol rehab.  It explains everything you need to help your spouse or family member BEFORE there life totally blows apart from drug abuse.

The last component will be our on line lectures of the key topics of drug rehab.  These are the same lectures presented in a drug rehab center, but available to you when ever you want.  It adds voice and sight to the learning process to all that you will read for the drug rehab process.  We are truly excited about adding this to the other services on our site.  It will be quality information and help about addiction had home rehab at a very affordable price.  See you in 2008!

California State Funded Free Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

On my never ending quest for free drug and alcohol facilities I have received another source of information.  It is specifically for women with children.  It is particularily difficult for someone trying to raise and support a family on their own and deal with an addiciton.  But what could have more impact on our society then helping mom's with addiction, so they can raise and be real role models in their kid's lives.  Cycles of addiction and abuse tend to be passed from generation to generation.  Click here for information on State funded California drug rehab programs.

The Rest of the California State Funded free drug and alcohol rehab programs are also available.  Click here for the rest of the information.  This is a listing of all the free and low cost drug rehab services availble to men, women and children.

Fort McMurray Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Fort McMurray is a very unique place.  If you have not heard of it, you will sooner or later.  It is the site of the tar sands, a huge industrial complex being built in northern Alberta.  The amount of oil being produced and the scale of everything is staggering.  Everything in Fort McMurray is the biggest. The biggest dump trucks in world.  The biggest excavators in the world.  Projects totalling 25 BILLION dollars for a single plant.    Companies building their own airstrips with their own 737's flying 5 days a week to fly in their workforce.

Fort McMurray is also building something else on a massive scale.  The drug problem is growing at magnitude never seen before in a single community.  Big wages and long hours isolated from family and friends.  Lots of stress with every project behind schedule and over budget.  Darkness and extreme cold for 5 months a year.  The speed at which people are becoming addicted and blowing apart is frightening.  Cocaine, crack, meth, weed, alcohol are common place.

The companies at Fort McMurray are going to have to find drug rehab solutions if this wish to have a real sustainable workforce.  Drug testing workers may insure safe welds in their plants and pipelines, but what about the cost to the workforce.  They must start to address the stress in the workplace as well as the boomtown conditions.  Teaching people to cope has to be cheaper in the long run the "stealing" workers from each other.

This is not a case study in how addictive cocaine is with people and high incomes.  This is a great example of if you stress people with family disconnection, long hours, harsh weather, project delays and we all want it yesterday, that self medication through drugs becomes the answer.  With all the cash going into Fort McMurray, the drug rehab programs provided by the oil companies there should and have to be state of the art.  They are not.  Stop arresting drug dealers.  Start teaching people how to cope.  Drug rehab at Fort McMurray is an exaggerated example of what is going on in the rest of North America.  It is just if they cannot deal with it, looking at the cash going into those projects, there is not much hope for the rest of us.

Who says it’s not Possible in Drug Rehab?(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

You have wasted too much of your life.  Your relationship is too damaged.  Your health is permanently affected and can never be recovered.  You have ruined your reputation forever.  Your criminal record will follow you anywhere.  With so many things you cannot change, why even try drug rehab?  These blanket statements have the same thing in common.  They are not true.  Ever!

You may have wasted 50% of your life.  You may have wasted even more.  No person has wasted 100% of their life.  How can you say learning to walk and speak was a waste of time?  How can you say breathing is a waste of time?  The other thing about these statements is that they all involve judgement.  Who is making that judgement?  Where are these rules written?

In a drug rehab program you can improve all of these areas.  You can use your time more wisely today.  You can improve any realtionship today, simply by being calm and peaceful, (even if they are not speaking to you).  You can tell the whole truth today.  You can be successful in today, no matter what happened in your past.  There is a great video of Lance Armstrong.  In it on a practise day he is riding his bike when they tell him it is snowing ahead.  The say the road is impassable and he will have to stop.  It is not possible to finish the ride.  He calmly looks over and says, "Who says it's not possible?".  He then looks back at the road, and keeps on riding.

Do not let other people's decisions and rules tell you what is possible in drug rehab.  Challenge all or nothing blanket statements.  Set defintions in your life that support you and what you know in your heart you are supposed to do.  Even if this was your last day on earth, you can still make it "the best last day ever".  It is always possible to improve.

Splitting in Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

When you deal with a addicted person or client and you are one of a group of people dealing with this person, at some point you may come across splitting. This happens is a drug rehab quite often, especially at the beginning of the rehab program.  Splitting is a manipulation technique.  It inolves making you feel special, and tries to pull you away from the group concencus.  Here is a typical splitting scenario.

Someone may come up to you and say, " Do you know what Bill did to me?"  Then they explain the injustice or how they were "treated unfairly".  Then comes the splitting comment ….  I know YOU would never do that!  In one sentence they give you a "compliment", and pull you away from the other person.  This type of manipulation involves creating a subgroup of 2 people, you and them, who reall know what is going on.

When you are dealing with people with an addiction or in drug rehab, be aware of splitting.  This is especially true if you are just dealing with a loved one over the phone while they are at a drug rehab.  Statement like, "You are the ONLY family member that understand what I am going through" is a splitting statement.  Invariably requests for "special" treatment will follow.  The key to deal with splitting is to simply bring in the other poeple.  A good response to the above statement would be to answer with, "Wow, I didn't know that, let's get the rest of the family on a conference call and see if we can get them to understand.  It's inportant everyone know you feel this way!"  Splitters will immediately back off.  They do not what an open conversation with everyone, as they are probably telling the other family members the say line they just told you. ! ;

Splitters are not only in addiction and drug rehab.  You will find them everywhere in your life.  Truth and openess are the best answer to them.

Tony Robbins is an amazing speaker.  I have seen him live, up close and personal, and if you ever get the chance …. Go.  As 2007 draws to a close, thought naturally turn to next year and what you would like to accomplish in the New Year.  Drug rehab is about change and so is the start of a new year, so it is doubly important to stop, and plan a little for the future.  I saw this and thought I would pass it on.  It only take 3 or 4 minutes to watch and will help you a lot in thinking about what direction you would like to go after drug rehab.  Click here for The 12 Tenets for the New Year, from Tony Robbins!

Non Drug Addictions(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Addictions gradually isolate and destroy lives.  With the so called war on drugs, many times it seems that it is the only addiction we really focus on as a society.  The other addictions ruin careers, marriages and families as well.  If you want to determine the "popularity" of the different types of addictions, again looking at the number of searches for that term on the internet is a fairly valid method.  If a lot of people are searching for gambling addiction, then it must be a concern.

When you look at the top ten non drug addictions I was quite surprised again by the number one spot.  Maybe I forgot just how much that comuters have become a part of our lives, but still I didn't expect it.  Click here to see the top ten and also the next ten "honorable mentions" for non drug addictions.

Birthdays and Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

There are lots of celebrations in a drug and alcohol rehab center.  Anniversaries and birthdays and the like all occur to some of the clients while they are attending and learning from a drug rehab program.  Christmas was the biggest of them that just past.  I do not know if it the stress of being away from your family, or just the fact of all the Christmas's that have gone by, and been wasted by drugs and alcohol, but things get a little crazy in a drug rehab around holidays.  Our was no exception this year.  Somehow it seems to turn from a celebation of what you have, into a pitty party of what you are missing by being in drug rehab during these special days.

It is as always a problem of focus.  Pitty parites always start with a question that begins with "why".  Action and mental well being always start with a question that begins with "what".  That may seem like a gross oversimplification, but in reality and practise it is not.  Why does this alway happen to me? Why am I here?  Why don't they listen?  Why am I in this supid drug rehab?

What is going well today?  What have I learned here?  What can I do today to help someone else?  What is the most important thing in my life right now?

Can you see the vast difference that one word can make.  It will make a huge difference in your stay at drug rehab, even if it not your birthday.  Take care and have a great day!

How big is the “big picture” in drug rehab?(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

They say the devil is in the details, and so it is in drug rehab as well.  Details are that two edged sword that if you do not deal with the proper balance, trouble is sure to follow.  If you do not deal with the details, nothing ever get accomplished.  However at the same time you can never let details direct your attention and focus.  Sounds like it is impossible … right?

Not really, but again you have to be careful how you ask yourself questions, or you will misdirect your time and effort.  Drug rehab is about behavior change.  Behavior change is about quality questions.  Start your process each day with a couple of these.  Firstly, "What one thing can I do today, that will have the MOST impact on my sobriety and my drug rehab program?  What is the second most important thing?"

This will give you the focus you need.  Then try this question.  "Is there any details or clutter I need to clear up today so I can focus on what is truly important?"  This will provide the balance we all need.  If there are some housekeeping type items that must be taken care of so they do not intrude on the focus of your drug rehab program, then by all means get them out of the way.  This combination of questions helps you keep focused on the big picture.  It also help keep away all the little pictures in drug rehab, from blurring the big picture.  Give it a try and have a great day!

Life Never Happens on Schedule at Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

You have an addiction.  You accept your need some help, and to learn some new skills to get and stay sober.  So you just go to drug rehab and 90 days later your life is changed and everything gets better.  How I wish that were true.  Unfortunately while effort and results are related, you cannot get one without the other, the problem lies in the fact there is not a direct correlation.  Nothing along the line of 5 hours of effort equals 2 things new and better in your life.  Your drug rehab may have a schedule, but your life may not choose to follow the schedule.  You can choose the direction of your life in drug rehab, and you can choose the results you would like with your goals.  You cannot however choose when those results arrive.  It is the space between effort and the time the desired result arrives that drive most of us bonkers.  It is in that space where phrase! s like, "Life isn't fair!"  come from.

It is in this space where the negative voice in our heads causes so much damage to ourselves and those we love and care for.  Drug rehab is a great place to take on this voice and retrain it.  What are some of the ways to deal with the voice?  One of them is to examine and judge your efforts, not the results.  If you have worked hard and stayed sober in your drug rehab program, simply look at that.  When and where your family and friends start to believe in the new you is out of your control.

I am not saying to ignore the result, but to not judge it.  If the result is not what you want, do not immediately denigrate your effort.  Ask if your effort was focused in the correct direction, and the correct intensity?  But do not judge the quality of your effort.  Also remind yourself that the number one goal in drug rehab is to change your own behavior, not how the world veiws and rewards that behavior.  By controling focus, your control the negative voice, and all the negative things that come with it.

Change Your Course, not your Goal in Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

In life there are times when things do not work out as you had hoped.  The sobriety and life you want and desire has slipped out of your grasp. What do you do?  Do you give up?  Do you change your goals to something you can reach?  Do you just give up on change and drug rehab, and stay addicted?

No of course not.  It is imporant that you challenge your methods, and constantly ask, "Is there a better way to make this happen?"  Ask if you are missing something.  Ask if you need an outside opinion.  The question to stay away from is about the validity of your goal and the worthiness of yourself.  By charting the course and working at it, you are deemed worthy.  If the drug rehab program is not working for you, look at how you can learn it or try it in a different place or method.  "How can I try this again, and give myself a better chance than last time?  This is a question to ask.

Drug rehab is about being flexible in your course and your methods, it is not a place to lower or change your real dreams.

What If Nobody Notices the Change After Drug Rehab?(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Losing weight is a visible change.  Everyone will notice it and most people will comment on it. While you may lose or gain weight in drug rehab, most of the changes you make will be on the inside.  While your behavior will change, most people may not notice the real change and believe it for a long time.  Before you went into drug rehab they may have been let down so many times, that even if they notice the change after rehab they still may hold back.  They are waiting to see if you revert back to the same behavior you exhibited before going to drug rehab.

This may not seem fair, and it will add stress to your life.  It is isolating to change, and feel nobody really knows who you are.  If you are going to prevent this from changing your emotional state, and lead you back to drug use, you have to have a plan.  What if nobody really does not notice all the improvements you have worked on in a drug rehab program?  The answer is simple.  You have to notice.  You have to chart and measure your progress.  And you have to keep that progress in front of yourself at all tiime.  Start counting the productive hours you put in a day.  Compare that to before drug rehab.  Look at the feeling you get when you wake up sober and not hung over.  Compare that to the mornings before drug rehab.

Over time people will notice, and the nice part about that is it won't matter to you.  You will have noticed.  You will see the progress. You will be the one making a difference.

All or None Thinking … Destroyer of Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Dr. David Burns I think coined the phrase "all or none thinking".  It refers to making things or situations black or white.  Looking at the world in an either - or, type situation.  The world is all grey, very little of it is actually black or white.  All or none thinking is a cognitive distortion that is of partictular danger in drug rehab.  Statement like I can never quit usings drugs, or I always relapse and go back to alcohol, are typical statements of this type.

The true danger of cognitive distortions is that they invariably lead to poor decisions.  "I can never quit drugs, so I might as well quit this stupid drug rehab anyway!"  See what I mean, all of none thinking is very self defeating.  All or none thinking can even be applied to the drug rehab itself. The program is either great or it is a total waste of time.  Most drug rehabs, if not all drug rehabs fall in between these two extremes, at least at some time during your stay.

The reall way out of all or none thinking is to ask yourself, "I think I might be exagerating a bit, so what % of the time, REALISTICALLY does this REALLY happen?"  Even if your answer is 90%, that still means 10% of the time it does NOT.  This also means you can aske an amazing and powerful new question.  "What would I have to do to get is so 80 or 70% of the time this does not happen?"  Once you get to 70% you can start to go to 50%.  All of nothing thinking keeps you locked in inaction.  Inaction in an addiction is dangerous.

Make moving past all of none thinking one of your goals in drug rehab.  If you are thinking about leaving a drug and alcohol rehab program early it is all or none thinking at work.  Ask some better questions, and your chances of moving past addiction go way past, " All or None ".

It’s a Wonderful Life …. in Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

I am watching one of my favorite movies of all time, it is kind of a Christmas tradition.  I'm sure all of you have seen it many times as well.  Jimmy Stewart in "It's a Wonderful Life".  It doesn't matter how many times I see it, the story pulls me in every time.  It is about all the people we touch in our lives, and how we impact them.  I think everyone has some periods in their life where they think the world and their family might be better off without them.  The story looks at the point of veiw that nothing could be further from the truth.  All the people you touch and help in the world.

Drug rehab may feel kind of like this movie at sometimes.  Maybe you feel like a burden on the world.  Maybe some of your dreams did not come true.  But you are touching other people.  By sharing your pain and experience you can make a difference in the lives of those who are going to drug rehab with you.  You can make a difference simply by listening, letting others know you care.  You can make a difference by being willing to try something new, and trying to learn it even if it feels uncomfortable.  You can make a difference simply by refusing to give up.  You do make a difference.

Why Clients leave Drug and Alcohol Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

December is a tough month for clients in a drug rehab.  It is hard to be away from family and friends at anytime of the year, but being in drug rehab around Christmas is especially tough.  Clients who started drug rehab in October are probably finding these last few weeks hard to focus and stay.  They have been there for 9 or 10 weeks of a 12 week program.  It is easy to listen to the voice in their head urging them to leave.

Add in the pull of the holiday season and you have a recipe for early departures from a drug rehab center.  There is a natural tendancy towards the end of a drug rehab program to ask the question, "What will I learn in the last few days?".  Is it worth missing out on the connection with my family?  I am dying to show them the new me.

The problem lies in that if you do not stay and complete the drug rehab program you will not be showing them the "NEW" you.  In fact you will just be showing them a sober version of the old you.  The old you didn't keep there word.  The old you was impulsive and selfish.  The old you didn't complete things.

By not finishing the program you are simply behaving as the "old you".  So your first act as a sober person shows the world, you have not changed.  Don't be seduced by the lure of leaving early.  Pro atheletes never leave practice early.  They never ask, will these last 5 practice shots make any difference.  They know in their hearts it will make a difference.  Make your stay in a drug rehab center the first step of a new person who ALWAYS completes what they set out to do.  Have a Happy Christmas, stay and finish your drug rehab program.

Everybody is Touched by Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

I was out Christmas shopping yesterday, (with all the rest of you) and met some wonderful people.  Lines-ups at this time of year seem to be easier to take for some reason.  People are more polite and forgiving, and they are just more willing to talk.  I had a great conversation with a lady that was in front of me in a line to purchase our presents.  After the usual chit chat, she asked me what I do for a living.  After a brief explanation, she immediately started talking about all the people in her life who had been affected by drug abuse.  Some had sought out treatment at a drug rehab center and others had dealt with it in different ways.

What was truly interesting was how little she actually understood about addiction, even though she was literally surrounded by it.  I gave her a mini lesoon in stress and self medication and it was as if someone had told her about the world for the first time.  It was obvious she really wanted some way to understand what people in her life were doing and why.  She also said she never really understood the purpose of drug rehab, and thought people who went there were just weak, because they didn't stop on their own.

The five minutes we spent together in line disappeared in a blink.  She thanked me and wished me a merry Christmas, took a few steps away, then stopped.  Whe came back and said, "Don't stop what you are doing, and I am glad there are rehabs, and thank you for telling me why they work."  I laughed and thought to myself, everyone is touched by drug rehab, even when they don't know it.

Multiple Addictions in Drug Rehab, It’s about the Cues!(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Many clients arrive at a drug rehab center with more than one addiction.  Obviously there are people who use multiple drugs, but this is not what I am discussing here.  I am alluding to the people who have addictions in other areas of their life as well.  Gambling, overeating, problems with inappropriate sexuality, compulsive shopping, internet and games…. well the list is almost endless.  Ultimately to have control of your own life and to be headed in the direction you truely want in life you must deal with these behaviors as well.

All of these compulsive type behaviors have in them some element of dealing with stress and coping in your life. Many of them simply invove escaping the normal daily stress and adding the "rush" of the activity.  All of them have trigger and patterns , and all of them have cues.  They may not be the same cues and triggers as you have for using drugs and alcohol, but they are there, none the less.  You simply have to examine and look for them.  If you have multiple addictive behaviors, dealing with them in drug rehab will involve extra work, however it is certainly doable.  The simplest method is just doing all the exercises and stategies for each of your addictive behaviors.  If you do drugs and gamble, then do every exercise in the drug rehab program twice.  Once for the concern of drug abuse, and then do it again from the view of your gambling.  Many times the result for bath may be almost identical.  The triggers and cues ho! wever will probably be the areas where you will find the biggest difference in your addictions.

The harder part may be funneling all this information into one "master" relapse prevention plan.  Combining all the elements and solutions for all these negative behaviors into this plan will be a lot of work.  It may invlove a bit of creative thinking and solution seeking as coming up with simple clear boundaries, goals, and commitments in several areas is not easy.  Ask for help, as dealing with only one addiction will still leave you unhappy and most likely the one addiction will pull you back into the other as well.

We hear about cocaine and heroin all the time when talking about drug rehab.  Cocaine and crack have taken a huge toll on society.  Meth is the new rising star so the speak in the world of illicit drugs.  What about prescription drugs that get abused?  Which of those are searched about more often than the rest.  We read in the news all the time about oxycontin.  This narcotic pain medication has caused more than a few clients to enter a drug rehab center.  Interestingly though it is not even in the top five searches for legal drugs with adictive potential.  The winner in this category is Ultram or by it's other name, Tramadol.  It holds down the number one and the number two spots on the top ten list.  Interested in seeing them all?  Click here and see the top ten and the next ten that didn't quite make the list.

“TAKE AWAY” does NOT work in Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Drug rehab is not about removing stuff from your life.  If you just remove or take away things, you crave and want them even more.  Drug rehab is about finding things that support and work within your life better and more consistently then drugs or alcohol ever did.  Drug rehab is about adding so many wonderful and new activities to your life there is literally no room left for these negative behaviors.

No matter how poorly your life may have been when you were using drugs and alcohol, they served some purpose in your life.  They were part of the fabric and coping mechanisms you had at that time.  You have to replace them and add new coping solutions if you want a life that is more than simply counting a negative, like 43 days since I have had a drink.  Without new and better stress solutions, there will come a time when you face a new and tough situation, you will want to revert back to your old solution, drinking and drugs.  When faced with tough situations people tend to go back to their oldest and most trusted methods

Just taking away things in sobriety will mean your only recourse is to hang on and "white knuckle" these situations in your life.  Make drug rehab more than take away or counting negatives. Make drug rehab a chance to learn and relearn all the things you feel you need to become the best you can be.  When you leave drug rehab, you want to have a new bag full of better ideas and methods to cope in your life.  It is not about stopping drugs.  It is about starting life.

The Absolute best Christmas Present Ever, Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

I was talking to an individual a few days ago.  They had a few concerns that had grown and were now ruining their life.  Ultimately they decided to get help.  Once they had made the decision they come to realize something which was giving them great comfort in this time of turmoil.  They were going to give their family the best Christmas present in years.  It is peace of mind.  By entering a drug rehab center before the holidays, their family could relax.  There would be no stressed out hovering, wondering if another holiday would be ruined by being intoxicated.  No door slamming and leaving in the middle of the night.  No apologies and promises of change in the morning.  It takes courage to leave at a time when everyone is getting together and celebrating family.  It takes self sacrifice to be willing to miss out on some todays to you can have a bunch of great tomorrows.  I woul! d like to take this moment to thank all of those individuals across this country who took the better path this year.  They took action to make this Christmas a good one for their families and entered a drug rehab center before the holidays.  Merry Christmas and best wishes in the New Year!

To change people you really have to “SEE” people in Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

You cannot help change "addicts".  You cannot change "junkies".   You cannot change "boozers".  All of these are labels.  A label is a tag or name we give to a set of things that look like something.  Labels are about sterotypes and assumptions.  You can however change people.  To do this however you actually have to get to know them and all of their unique abilities.  In other words you have to see them as people with a lot of value and some behaviors they want to change.  If you just see a junkie, they will feel confined by YOUR definitions.  I do not care how good your intentions are.

Drug rehab is about first finding the real person again and then about assisting them to change.  How can you see the real person if the first thing everyone says is "Hi, I'm a alcoholic."?  Labels prevent people from seeing people.  Labels give the false impression that everything about addiction is the same and if you just do steps one through twelve, everything will be fine.  People are not labels , and every solution is not a cookbook.

I choose the word client in describing people who deal with us for a very clear reason.  It does not label them.  A client is simply someone receiving a service.  "Patients" and "Addicts" can come with some negative connotations.  In drug rehab centers we help people.  We help people find what they want and stop imposing our definitions on them.

Getting Wires Crossed on the Way to Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

Some clients are really quite easy and simple about drug rehab.  They phone, they tell you about their problem, and inquire about cost of rehab.  They phone back a day or two later and tell you they are coming in.  This is a small percentage of the clients we see though.  In most cases it is a third party arranging the drug rehab.  It is a parent, brother, sister, spouse, or even a boss.  Sometimes it is even all of tose at once.  Throw in the odd lawyer and parole officer and you have a lot of concerned and stressed people trying to coordinate an event.

When you are getting a loved one in drug rehab you are not really in the best frame of mind.  You are tired and stressed.  You are worried for their health and safety.  You are trying to arrange finances. Putting it mildly your plate is full.  Add in talking to several drug rehab centers, andtrying to figure out which program will be the best choice for the money you have available.  This is a recipe for miscomunication if there ever was one.  Add into this an addicted person, consuming drugs and alcohol, probably at a higher rate than normal, because they know they are going to quit soon.  The last binge before the diet type of thing.

This recipe of stress and tension will lead to a few mistakes.  So if you are a client in a drug rehab center, and everything is not "exactly" as it was descibed to you, you may want to stop and think a bit before you accuse someone of misleading you.  Those around you in your life and the people at the rehab center are all doing the very best they can to get a safe place for you to change. They did it under tense moments.  Nobody got up one morning and said, "I'm going to trick so and so into a rehab that is not what they expected."  Everyone was trying to help, through phone calls, e-mails, faxes flights and all the other myriad of things that had to be done before you got there.  Cut poeple some slack.  They are the same people who have cut you a lot of slack in your behavior over the past few years.
