When dealing with drug rehab there is another type of call we get on a regular basis. A family member or close friend is out of control with their addiction. They require detox and admission to a drug rehab center. However they have no desire. They just want to continue in their addiction. Many do not think they need a drug rehab center. So the question comes up. Can't I get them committed to a drug rehab center where they are locked up and cannot leave?
I understand the pain they are feeling. Watching someone you love destroy their life and risk their health is extremely difficult and stressful. One of they hardest things in life to do is to step back and let people make mistakes. To watch someone go back to something that is unhealthy for them and has no future just seems insane. That is why they call. They want to lock them up until they come to their senses.
Unfortunately there is not much that can be done. "Rights" allow people to do a lots of wrongs. As long as someone does not get caught commiting a crime, and they are not talking about suicide, in most cases if they are an adult, there is not much you can do. To get someone into rehab, you do not have to hit "rock bottom" though. You can continue to ask about what they really want for their future. But do not believethe crap. If they say they do not want anything, they are lying. Everybody wants something. Nobody want sto zone out and do nothing forever. Doing the same thing day after day is boring NO MATTER WHAT IT IS! You can spend a lot of time discussing about if we shoulg be ale to impose drug rehab. However at present, that is the court's realm, and if you are not be be driven over the edge you have to remain in your relam of influence. If someone you love is ruining their life, hang in there. Keep the discussion about what they want. Don't accept their mediocre goals. And if they need drug rehab, find a way for them to get it.
