How Non Drug Addictions Relate to Drug Rehab(via Worldwide Drug Addiction News)

In drug rehab very seldom do you seem to have a solo or purely single addiction.  By this I mean a client who is addictied to a single substance and no sign of any compulsivity with anything else.  A person who abuses alcohol and nothing else.  Actually it is far more likely that a drug rehab center is filed with people exhibiting a cascade of addictions.  By this we are talking about have a first drug of choice, followed by a series of drugs and actions that can be used in conjuction, as well as instead of the primary drug of choice.

One of the more common examples of this would be Cocaine, Alcohol, and Sex.  There are a significant number of people who abuse all three of these at the same time.  There also a group of people who the combination is alcohol and gambling.  When you start to look at multiple addictive behaviors, it becomes far more apparent why the need for very clear and precise rules af behavior in a drug rehab center.  This is one of the reasons why there are restrictions about forming relationships in drug rehab.

Some of the top non drug addictions include video games, sex, gambling, food and pornography.  While the main purpose of drug rehab is to stop abusing drugs and alcohol, if a program works on the source of addictive behavior, it will help in these other areas as well.  The difference in treating these other behaviors is in the definitions of the triggers and cues for each type of addiction.  You may not be able to totally stop some of these behaviors, as in a drug rehab you may not be able to control all the variables.  Like computer access for instance.  However by controlling stress and giving your life real purpose, you can effectively deal with a lot of these non drug addictions.  They are all just learned behaviors, and a drug rehab is a good place to look at them all.
