The Story of Onan and Masturbation

Self gratification is a euphemism or nice term for masturbation. Onanism is another term that means the same thing, but you don't hear it often used today.

There are many interesting stories in the Bible. One such story is about Onan. What he actually did was not masturbation, but the practice of withdrawal, or coitus interruptus, as a method of birth control. But many priests and ministers equated it to sinful masturbation.

You can find the story in Genesis, Chapter 38. It tells about Judah and his sons. Judah was one of the 12 sons of Jacob. Jacob was later called Israel and his 12 sons formed the first nation called Israel.
